Six Lives Lost During Karachi Factory’s Boiler Explosion

A factory located in Karachi recently suffered an unfortunate accident when one of its boilers exploded. It resulted to the death of six employees while one suffered burn injuries. The factory is located inside the jurisdiction of the police station in Shah Latif Town. This information was released by the officials from the police and the hospital where the victims were brought.

Statement from the police revealed that the explosion of the boiler happened inside the factory of Honda Atlas which is located close to the Landhi Manzil Pump. During the rescue, seven of the workers were found to have severe burns.

The injured employees were then sent to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital which is the Burns Centre within Karachi. According to Dr. Qarar Ahmed Abbasi, the additional police surgeon, six of the victims (4 years old Shah Zaman, 35 years old Muhammad Saleem, 30 years old Imran, 33 years old Khalid, 35 years old Aamir Sufi and 25 years old Inayat) did not survive while they were receiving treatment.

Abbasi further explained that the victims who succumbed to their burns did not make it because 100 per cent of their bodies have been burned while the only survivor, Faheem, suffered burn to about 10 per cent of his entire body.

Ghanwar Ali Mahar, the SHO of the area, said that there are no cases filed against the company at the moment. Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh chief minister, said that he is currently overseeing the incident and therefore he expects a report submitted by the Labour Department’s secretary along with the city commissioner.

CM Shah expressed the grief he felt because of the accident and he has already mandated that an investigation should be conducted in order to know the reason why the boiler exploded in the first place. They are also inquiring as to the last time an inspection has been conducted within the factory.
