Development Starts At UK’s Flagship Tourist And Educational Destination
A £400 million world-class tourist attraction that will resemble CentreParcs in Derbyshire will be developed to include a university campus. At least 1,300 jobs are expected to be generated from the development of Peak Resort that will be situated on the edge of Peak District National Park.
The Peak Resort project will include 250 woodland lodges, 600 holiday apartments, hotel and hostel units including year-round health, leisure, sports and education facilities. The project will also feature a unique dome structure designed for water sports and adventure. There will be other leisure facilities that include an 18-hole championship course, a practice course for amateur golfers, a driving range and medical spa with walking trails and cycling in the 300-acre park and woodland. The project also includes a university campus for national and international students.
The ambitious project that is divided into 3 phases will be spearheaded by UK-based Birchall Properties Ltd and US-based Grand Heritage Hotel Group. Ground clearing for the project started last year. The Peak Resort is expected to be open for guests on summer of 2018. According to the developers, once the project is completed, it will be one of UK’s flagship tourist and educational destination outside London.
Andrew Best, the spokesman for the developers said that they are right on track with the project. Construction work will begin by autumn. Birchall Properties Ltd has obtained planning permission for the 1st phase of the building at a site that has been reclaimed from an opencast mining in the 1990’s.
On the other hand, Chesterfield-based NT Killingley Ltd has been awarded with a contract to handle the initial infrastructure works at the resort. The £400,000 contract will include the construction of 2.5 kilometres of pathways, the installation of 5-kilometer timber fencing and access points and improvement works on an existing car park.
