Locals know the struggle they have to endure everyday to put up with traffic jams. Even tourists who are staying at Danang Hotel may have noticed the road conditions when it comes to their daily commute. This is why the city decided to initiate a program for public bike service. This means that hundreds of bikes will not be seen installed in different streets downtown. This is the main measure the city is taking in order to conquer traffic jams.
According to the plan, the three districts – Son Tra, Hai Chau and Ngu Hanh Son – will have around 30 to 40 bike locations each and every location will have between five and 10 bikes. The locations will be strategically chosen so that it will be close to main roads and bus stops. The Department of Transport’s municipal government believes that it will make things more accessible with regards to tourist attractions and the public transport system of Danang.
There will be lanes exclusively designated for bicycles in streets including Bach Dang, Nguyen Van Thoai, Tran Phu, Pham Van Dong, Nguyen Van Linh, Tran Hung Dao, Vo Van Kiet, Vo Nguyen Giap and Le Duan.
The new bike service will be regulated through a smart bike network which comes with a mobile application. Through this, users will be able to pay for the rented bikes depending on their preferred length either payment per hour for the shortest and per month for the longest. They can pay through cash or they can also use payment methods found online.
Danang is considered to be the urban center of Vietnam with a population of over 1.2 million. This is also the third most valued city in the country following the steps of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
The initiative is a result of the increasing number of personal vehicles in the city. Statistics show that cars increase an average of 12 per cent yearly while motorbikes 10.5 per cent. With this, not just locals but even tourists staying at Danang Hotel will be able to test out the pilot project just as long as they have the mobile application and pay for the bike rentals.
